The trip had been postponed for two days, mostly because of my hesitation. I really didn`t want to go. As somebody says, nature makes me nervous. Also there was another personal reason which occupied my mind constantly.
We rented a car, blue VW Beetle, which had very little space to put stuff in. Also side mirrors were too small for my preference. But it runs just fine. Most car run much better than my old Mazda mini van.
It was about less than 5 hours drive from Berkeley. The area was less crowded than Yosemite.
As I expected, nature made me nervous. Especially on the arriving day.
However, I had a bowl movement on the first night even I was very nervous. I shitted behind a bush near my campground. Actually I shitted in the bush that belongs to the next campground to ours. It was probably good thing no one took the place while we staid there.
It is always the case that my bowl movement drastically improve while I`m in the nature. I shitted total of 6 times while I was in there. This was quite a good record compare to my regular rate of bowl movement per day. I shitted in outside half the time.
On the map Kings Canyon national park is bounded with Sequoia national park. We went to a cave called crystal cave on the 3rd day and found we like Sequoia park better. More huge sequoias and facilities are new and well equipped. More people, families particularly though. We went to the cave with a group of people and a ranger as guide. Too many people and too many talk for my taste.
We didn`t hike or swim as we did in Yosemite. To simply put, we were tired from everyday life. I felt getting old. I just realized I`m in a certain phase, or I finally started noticing things which had already taken places probably few years ago but I did not notice. Lots of doubts and uncertaintities. Also my tooth started ache little. Sleeping on the ground made sleep uneasy and body stiff.
It was not that we really wanted to go camping. What we really wanted was to go somewhere and stay in good hotel and refresh our minds. We just did not have enough money to afford luxury anymore as we did in the past. Therefore camping.
Neither of us really liked staying outside all the time. It is a huge difference between you go camping because you want to and you go camping because you don`t have money to stay in hotel. This was another thing made me realize the "phase" I`m in. Whether I like it or not, I`m not 26 years old anymore and there is some differences between being 26 and 35.
So we managed to save money. Campsite costs only $18 per night. Eriko cooked each meal so that we did not have to buy food.
Another good thing. Fewer insects this time.
On the way back to our campground from the cave, we found a lodge which looked new and quite fancy. In the lobby, I saw two guys looking at laptops on their lap and checking email. There was a bar behind the lobby. Next time I will stay there even for one night. My favourite camping schedule is having last night at good hotel to clean myself and relax after days of camping. I think we will come to Sequoia park next time.
As we came back, East bay was much colder and damp. Weather was gloomy. I need to make an appointment for my dentist as soon as possible. How many hours did I spent on a chair of dentist? I`m sure I beat most people on that one.
